The Workers Party is entirely opposed to the classification of housing as a commodity i.e., something to be bought, sold, and/or rented in order to make a profit. Housing is a universal need and as such should be provided by the state, based on the needs of the people.
The bourgeois parties disregard our solutions that we outline below as ignorant and idealist. Their solution is to ‘support’ the market by finding ways to increase property ownership, and transfer more public money into private hands. We state that this will only serve to ‘heat up’ the market and accelerate the catastrophic burst of the property bubble and deepen the capitalist crisis. We pose the question to the bourgeois parties, if the market could resolve this crisis, why has it not done so already?
Of course they cannot answer this question, because the fact is a private market driven by profits will never be capable of satisfying the people's needs.
