The Workers Party condemns the heavy handed and repressive behaviour of the PSNI in arresting two peaceful campaigners during a pro-Palestine protest in Belfast.
If the PSNI is genuinely interested to “protect public health and safety, minimise disruption to normal life and … the need to prevent and detect crime” then perhaps it could better devote its efforts to tackling the hated-filled sectarian and racist flags and slogans which pollute our public spaces rather than arresting two women engaged in a peaceful protest against a financial institution which is bankrolling Israel’s genocidal assault on Palestinians through its financial ties with arms companies that sell weapons to Israel which are used in the slaughter of innocent men, women and children.
Barclays also has an agreement with Israel to act as a “primary dealer” for its government bonds thus assisting the racist Zionist government directly to raise money to fund its crimes against Palestinians.
The Workers Party condemns the arrests of these women and calls for the protests against Barclays to be stepped up. The WP also calls on all concerned people to boycott all Barclays services and to close accounts they may have with that bank.
