For a People’s Response against Religious Hate Street Preachers

June 21st 2026

The Workers Party demands a people’s response against the current religious hate street preachers peddling reactionary and inflammatory dogma to divide working people and target and intimidate minorities. It is the duty of socialists to protect the public sphere for all and oppose hate driven speech which targets vulnerable groups, including migrants, LGBTQ+ people and religious minorities. The dangerous activities of these aggressive and vocal hate-mongers direct anger away from the exploitative capitalist system which destroys workers’ lives and focuses hostility on the marginalised.

Workers themselves must publicly confront and challenge the hate-mongers and create solidarity networks to ensure the safety and support of targeted groups. The Workers Party is determined to build a society free from misogyny, racism, homophobia and sectarianism – a socialist society.

When reactionary voices use religion as a weapon to target and intimidate minorities, the Workers Party will defend the right of minorities, workers and their families to walk the streets without being harassed or dehumanised.

Hate preaching is a reactionary device that protects capitalist power by dividing the working class. The streets belong to the people. The answer is the collective power of a united working-class confronting reaction with messages of unity and liberation. We will not surrender the public space.
