WP calls for "cool heads and strong leadership" after brutal attack in North Belfast

"The unscrupulous groups in our society who hijack what is a traumatic experience for the families and friends of the victim and those who witnessed the attack. North Belfast Workers Party Rep, Fiona McCarthy, has condemned the brutal attack that took place in the Antrim Rd Area of North Belfast. Fiona, who has been responsible for the placement of defibrillators and bleed boxes across North Belfast, said, “the Workers Party hopes for a full and speedy recovery for the victim of this horrendous attack and has called on people not to speculate on the reasons for the attack and to allow the police to investigate and use all the means at their disposal.

Ms McCarthy also called on those using social media platforms to stop calling on people to take to the streets. “Calling on men of eighteen and over to come dressed in dark clothing and be prepared to fight and be arrested is not peaceful protest. Creating violence in their own community serves no useful purpose and causes more violence”, said Ms McCarthy.

Ms McCarthy concluded by making a call for cool heads and strong leadership. “The unscrupulous groups in our society who hijack what is a traumatic experience for the families and friends of the victim and those who witnessed the attack. They care nothing for the safety of their communities. It is time for real leadership from our politicians and community leaders to stand up to those who to further their own political agenda are willing to invoke hatred and violence within their own communities. It is time for cool heads and strong leadership, it is time to stand up to not stand with those who seek only hatred and division”.
