Workers Party stands with trade unions to show support for international workers

The Workers Party has attended rally at Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry organised by the Trade Union Unison in support of international workers in the hospital who had been the subject of racist abuse whilst in a playground with their children. The Workers Party are proud to stand with trade unions and other organizations that had attended to show their contempt for racism, and their support for international workers.

The Workers Party's Lily Kerr, when addressing the rally said that international workers were not a new phenomenon to our health and social care sectors. Rathert, they have been here for decades, helping to keep the doors of our hospitals, care homes, and nursing homes open. They are part of the healthcare community. They are our brothers and sisters, who provide care for our families at the most vulnerable stages of their lives, and we thank them for the important contributions they make.

It is noteworthy that whilst sectarian attacks have decreased in recent years, the number of racist attacks had significantly increased. We are not prepared to tolerate a situation that allows for one form of bigotry to be exchanged for another.

Those people from the far right seem to believe that if they carry their respective national flags while chanting their vile slogans, this somehow represents unity. The real and only unity there is, was shown last night when workers their trade unions and political parties came together in support of their international colleagues and racism was shown the red card. The message was loud and clear: No to Racism. Workers Unite!
