Solidarity Message from the Workers Party of Ireland to the Communist Party of India

About the Communist Party of India

Founded in December 1925, the Communist Party of India (CPI) is a large Communist Party in India, with more than 650,000 members and with representation at national and local levels. The CPI was the main opposition party in India in the 1950s and 1960s and between 1946-51 the Party led militant struggles, organising guerrilla warfare against feudal lords. In 1964, a split in the CPI led to the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which eventually emerged as the larger of the two parties. Since 2023 the CPI has been part of the state government in Kerala with four Cabinet Ministers and a Deputy Speaker.

Dear comrades,

The Workers Party of Ireland sends warm fraternal greetings to the Communist Party of India on the occasion of your 25th Congress.

The Communist Party of India is a party of struggle for the workers and peasants of India firmly engaged against the anti-worker and anti-people policies of the ruling circles and mobilising mass actions, including marches, strikes and activities organized together with the trade unions and other communist forces and raising the consciousness of the people in defence of secularism, democracy and basic social and economic rights against capitalism, privatisation, communalism and the forces of right reaction, fascism and imperialism.

The CPI has been an advocate of the struggles of women, workers, peasants, tribal peoples, youth and students and an active participant in the fight to end all forms of exploitation and social oppression, including caste discrimination and religious sectarianism.

The CPI represents years of struggle for the people of India, including the struggle for independence and the fight to build a society free from exploitation and oppression and to win the battle for socialism.

The expansion of imperialist blocs, imperialist aggression and growing militarisation represent real threats to peace and the peoples of the world. The Zionist state of Israel continues its genocidal assault, including the deliberate starvation of the Palestinian people, across the Gaza Strip and has increased its murderous attacks on Palestinian territory in the West Bank, destroying infrastructure and laying siege to refugee camps. All of these criminal actions take place with the support of the US, EU and their allies.

The Central Executive Committee of the Workers Party of Ireland extends its solidarity to the communists of India in their continuing struggles and sends best wishes to the leadership and members of the Communist Party of India for success at your 25th Congress.

Yours in communist solidarity,

 Ted Tynan, President

Gerry Grainger, International Secretary
