Chair of Women’s Committee delighted at Party Turnout at Reclaim the Night

December 8th 2025
Ursula Meighan Chairperson of The Workers Party Women’s Committee has praised party members who attended the reclaim the night rally on November 29th. She said the rally was just one of the events of the sixteen days of activities the Party were participating in to highlight the increasing threats that women and girls face.
Ursula continued, “women are being murdered in their homes by violent partners, women are being raped and sexually assaulted on our streets, verbally abused online, and demeaned in every possible way. Violence to women is not just a local problem, it's a national and international one. Women face exploitation , oppression, discrimination, and harassment in every aspect of their lives”.
Ursula went on to explain that Governments have totally failed women in terms of legislation, resources , financial and human, and failure to implement policies like the Safe Leave act first agreed in 2022 and consulted on in 2024 but still not implemented. “This should be an important step in helping women leave abusive relationships. The Workers Party have been raising the issue of violence against women for decades in 2025 we have held a number of events and awareness sessions for our members and a major international Women’s Day online event with local, national and international speakers."
Ms Meighan concluded by saying it was great to see that Party activists had brought their young boys and girls to the rally. We need to teach our children and young men that violence to women and girls is unacceptable, and misogyny has no place in our society.
