"The Central Executive Committee of the Workers Party of Ireland extends its greetings and solidarity to the Swedish communists in their continuing struggles. We look forward to strengthening and consolidating the links between our two parties."
Dear comrades,
The Central Executive Committee of the Workers Party of Ireland (WPI) sends warm comradely greetings to the Communist Party of Sweden (SKP) on the occasion of its 39th Congress which will be held in Stockholm on 30-31 May under the slogan "We Strengthen Our Party in the Struggle for Peace and Socialism”. We note that your 39th Congress will consolidate the successes of the Party evolving its organization in line with current requirements and realities of your struggle.
Since your 38th Congress, as you have pointed out, imperialist contradictions have sharpened rapidly, impacting working people all around the world with warfare, repression and exploitation. Your Congress takes place at a very dangerous time for world peace. The ever- growing imperialist threat, increasing militarisation and warmongering and continuing and sustained capitalist exploitation and oppression pose great dangers for the future of the planet.
Meanwhile, as the Palestinians continue to resist the Israeli brutality, apartheid and genocide, we express our solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just cause. The working class is facing a crisis that will have long term and very serious implications for health and wellbeing. Rapidly rising prices for food, fuel, housing, education and other essentials are devastating working-class living conditions, making it increasingly impossible for millions of people to make ends meet. Workers face the prospect of unemployment, low wages, precarious work and attacks on health, social and labour rights.
The conditions confronting humanity and our planet will not be overcome by cosmetic measures. Capitalism cannot solve the problems we face. Real change can only be delivered through a change in the social order, by ending the capitalist system. The working class, whose labour power is the source of all wealth in society, must take control of the system of production and resources, to create a new social order to meet the needs of all.
The Central Executive Committee of the Workers Party of Ireland extends its greetings and solidarity to the Swedish communists in their continuing struggles. We look forward to strengthening and consolidating the links between our two parties both bilaterally and through our common membership of European Communist Action and the International Meeting of Communist and Workers parties.
Our Party sends you best wishes for the success of your Congress and wishes you continued success in your work and the common struggle for peace, democratic and workers’ rights and socialism.
Long live proletarian solidarity!
Long live Marxism-Leninism!
For Workers’ Power and Socialism!
Yours in communist solidarity,
Ted Tynan, President
Gerry Grainger, International Secretary
