Children as young as 12 are being offered ‘free’ cannabis vapes

Peter McGuire. Workers Party representative for Derry City, has hit out at the drug dealers who are giving children just 12 years old free cannabis vapes to get them hooked on drugs. Peter continued thankfully the police have made a number of arrests in the Waterside area.
Peter said youth workers and community activists are working on the ground to engage young people and warn them of the dangers inherent in sampling free drugs of any kind from unscrupulous dealers. But unfortunately, there are not enough youth workers employed to do the outreach work needed to cope with this growing problem.
Peter has appealed to young people not to allow themselves to be coerced or pressured into trying these drugs.
Peter urged children to alert a parent or another adult if approached, saying that “drugs have a detrimental impact on the lives of those who fall prey to addiction and on their entire family. Peter continued, “the drug pushers in our society prey on working class communities and care nothing for the misery they create in order to make money. It is not uncommon for used needles to be found lying on our streets as moderate drug taking can progress to injecting hard drugs. Peter finished by saying our communities need to be vigilant and the police should step up patrols in the areas drug dealers are known to frequent.
