The Workers Party of Ireland unreservedly condemns the arrests carried out on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, targeting the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) along with several other cadres and members of the Party. The raid conducted by police special forces at the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan was a politically motivated and orchestrated act of revenge designed to intimidate critics of the bourgeois state.
The detention of a large number of protesters against this sinister action involving cadres, Polit Bureau members and members of the Central Committee of the CPI(M) and the arrest of comrade M.A. Baby, General Secretary of the Party, represents a further act of aggression by India’s reactionary bourgeois government.
The Workers Party of Ireland stands with our comrades in the CPI(M) and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all those detained. The CPI(M) will not be intimidated. Please be assured of the active solidarity of your comrades in the Workers Party of Ireland which has also raised this issue with the Indian state representatives in Ireland.
Long live the Communist Party of India (Marxist)!
End the violation of the communists’ rights!
The struggle of the Indian communists against India’s reactionary bourgeois government will not be defeated!
Gerry Grainger, International Secretary, on behalf of the Central Executive Committee
